The Thief of Rage - Murdoch's Apology - The Israeli/Palestine Conflict

Rupert Murdoch’s apology to the Jewish community was not given, one suspects, because he truly believed the cartoon by Gerald Scarfe was grotesque or offensive. It was a politically motivated economic move, with thoughts only of the potential damage it might cause to his Jewish/American audience, and meant to diffuse then placate that large segment of his companies buying public.

Scarfe’s cartoon was not aimed at Jewish people but rather at the Israeli leader and the Israeli nation, many of whom are Christian, who continue to wage war on the Palestinians. There are many people like myself who have nothing but admiration for Jews, who recognise and condemn the atrocities of the holocaust but who dislike the way Israel conducts its relations with its neighbour.

The cartoon does what caricatures are meant to do; it amplifies the truth and challenges the situation in a satiric fashion the better to make its point. With that in mind I guess it is grotesque but then again it should be for isn't that the point?

The one serious error was not of Gerald Scarfe’s making nor his illustration, he has done similar jobs on Thatcher, Obama and the Syrian leader, but News International for publishing the drawing on Holocaust day. Of course this upset Jews. It was a highly insensitive thing to have done but don’t blame the cartoonist for doing his job.

Rupert Murdoch is a heinous creature, far more a devil itself than the Devil's Advocate. Despise that man, wouldn't piss on him if he were on fire.
I don't have great knowledge of it, so there's not much I can say, but suffice it to say that the Israeli-Palestine conflict is an awful thing. It seems wrong to me that the Palestinians are basically forced to live on a reservation. Yet how does one say this without coming across as anti-Semitic? I have no anti-Semitic intent. But what is being done to the Palestinians is wrong in the same way as what was done to the American Indians or the Australian Aborigines was wrong. At least that is my take on it, given my understanding of the situation.
