Album of the year 2012

From the murky depths of obscurity into the sodium filled glare of critical acclaim. Without a single reel or jig comes Lau, a folk band unlike any before. Earthy but experimental. This amazing body of work, bearing in mind how politely defiant it is reflects a spiritual reach seldom seen in the genre.
The instruments of acceptance are there but sit demurely beside those established by tradition. Ambient electronica throbbing with a 21st century pulse as violins and juicy, thick melodies dripping with emotion flood your hearing.
But this is no punk act of tearing down, ripping apart, this owes its debt upon ts sleeve yet still manages to break new, uncertain ground. I highly recommend this album and this band.
