One Hundred Words
In the drab dawn I take time to watch the Thames idly passing. A man in a spy’s raincoat holds one of those take-away coffees bought no doubt from Costa’s. He holds the drink with his right hand extended as if carrying a delicate porcelain figurine. Big Ben is silent now, a casual observer unable to recall those poetic lines sung by Ray Davies. The morning needs no taxi lights. The man doesn’t bother removing the cap but drinks instead through the tiny aperture making a slurping sound as he does. The Thames slip slaps sluggishly against the South Bank.
