The days are going too fast. I have little time now with Mum being in hospital to do anything apart from eat, sleep, work and visit her. The distance between Jasmine and I has closed a bit but not enough for me to base any reconciliation on. So sad but I must make the most of what there is left to us. We took it in turns to visit Mum today. I went first and was pleased to see her fighting back. She seemed far better today than Friday. Miles better in fact. The nurses, along with a physiotherapist, had her sitting up o the edge of the bed. They said she seems strong. I find that hard to believe after the last few days but I take encouragement from their knowledge and experience. I sat in the waiting room as they put Mum through whatever routine it is they perform. When I returned Mum looked weary and still slightly confused. The days passing seems to cause the most consternation for her. She still finds it hard to believe that five days have passed without her being aware of them at all. She still has tubes connected to her wrist, her hand and her nose but doesn’t seem to mind them. The catheter no longer seems to bother her either so no more unsightly ‘scratching.’ She would be horrified to know that she had so I shall stay silent on the subject.

Jasmine went in with Charlotte. Mum gave Jasmine her pension detail so that we can pay her bills. The fact that Mum, who knows full well our marriage breakdown, trusts Jasmine shows the true regard Mum has for her daughter-in-law. Jasmine still gets irritated by Mum though and I find that hard to deal with. Mum does have ways that I too find odd but I guess we all do. Perhaps it is the history of the two women that weighs heavy on my wife, understandable perhaps but time to move on I think. Later Emily went in to see Mum and she seems to think her improvement is good even though she, like me, is concerned over her vacant look at times that really is freaky to observe. The way she looks straight through you without seeing you or being aware of your presence.

In the evening Ron and Audrey popped in. They believe that their prayers are being answered and who am I to argue? I think it more a cse of science and medicine but if it makes Mum better then all power to prayer.
